Meals on Heels: The Party with a Purpose was the recipient of a Dot.Org Award from the MCN Technology & Communications Conference for its unique use of technology and communication in the category of "Fundraising & Friendraising." Star Tribune reporter, Jean Hopfensperger, profiled the event in her weekly column.
Meals on Heels incorporate a user-friendly event web site, online ticket sales, and the opportunity to donate $5 by texted WHEELS to 90999. In addition, promotions for the event were done almost exclusively online through a Facebook Event Page, Twitter feed, and personal invitations from Metro Meals on Wheels' staff and the event's volunteer committee.
Meals on Heels is the place to be on a Thursday evening in August. For a $25 ticket, you can sample uneding menu options from local restaurants and refreshing beverages from breweries. Complete with a competition for all the Swank Soles that hoofed their way off the shoe racks to make it to the event, guests enjoy an evening of fun, fellowships, and entertainment, all to benefit and support the more than 1.2 million meals delivered by Meals on Wheels in the Twin Cities each year.
