Metro Meals on Wheels (MMOW) recently awarded $34,177 to 25 local Meals on Wheels programs in the Twin Cities metro area. All programs receiving grants are members of MMOW. The grants help programs meet a wide variety of needs such as replacing worn-out equipment, upgrading technology, staff training and financial assistance for recipients.
Another $3,000 was awarded to 13 programs for volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition efforts. This special funding was made available to programs thanks to a grant from 3M and the MMOW shopping benefit held at Ten Thousand Villages in March.
Metro Meals on Wheels now makes it even easier to get involved with the Blizzard Box Blitz! If you can't pack boxes, you can sure spare $10 to sponsor a Blizzard Box and help feed seniors in our communities.
A nutritious diet is important, particularly for seniors, to avoid illness, recover from injury and live longer lives. That’s why Metro Meals on Wheels has partnered with Minnesota’s Nutritious Food Coalition, a statewide effort to increase participation in the state’s Food Support, formerly Food Stamp, program.
