Providing nutrition, connection, independence

Mission

Metro Meals on Wheels is the association of 37 Meals on Wheels programs in the Twin Cities metro. With our program partners, we lead the effort to make sure people in our community receive the nutritious meals and the human connection they need to help them live independently.

Support the mission of Metro Meals on Wheels today.  Receive, Deliver, or Give a meal.

MMOW and our partners pledge to:

  • Deliver a nutritious meal
  • Provide caring human contact to meal recipients
  • Meet dietary requirements and preferences
  • Offer referral resources to help people stay in their homes

Impact
Nutritious meals and social connection are essential for the health, self-sufficiency, and well-being of seniors, disabled and ill individuals. The affordable and efficient services provided by our 37 Meals on Wheels member programs helps to improve the overall health and wellness of meal recipients by providing high-quality nutrition and social connection.

  • More than 85% of older adults have one or more chronic conditions that could be improved by good nutrition
  • Malnutrition in older adults can lead to slower healing rates, increased risk for medical and surgical complications, delayed recovery from traumas, increased length of hospital stays and increased re-admission rates
  • The average cost of a nursing home is $70,000 per year; whereas the average cost for Meals on Wheels is $1,553 per year for a recipient
  • In a recent survey 48% of respondents said that their Meals on Wheels meal is the only food they eat in a day - (TRUST Meals on Wheels survey)
